life + art

one of the entries into this year's 'Spier Contemporary 2010 Art Competition' is by a young 'shining star in the dark' as he referred to himself, Brekkels Botha.
His sculpture is inspired by the recent Caster Semenya saga and stands over 2m tall. A strong masculine figure, carrying a smaller female figure on its shoulder, the sculpture is currently 'hidden' in a Gallery in Newtown.

The inaugural 2007/8 exhibition received over 2,500 submissions from around South Africa, exhibiting 95 artists in Cape Town and Johannesburg, hosted 25,000 visitors and awarded R1,000,000 in prize money

With the submission closing date looming we say good luck to our emerging shining stars
